We would like to express our sympathy to those affected by the Tohoku Earthquake as well as convey our deepest condolences to victims and their bereaved families.
As a hub for plant science research, my wish is that RIKEN Plant Science Center will assist those in need to recover from the damage caused by the earthquake. Though our help might be limited in scope in view of the historic magnitude of this event, we would like to reach out and offer long-term and continued support since the restoration work will take a lot of time and effort.
Our hope is to utilize joint graduate school programs to aid research activities, as well as eagerly accept graduate school students from the affected areas. For the specifics of our support plan, we will collaborate with university professors in the affected areas to fine-tune the details.
If you wish to participate in this support effort, please contact Dr. Shinjiro Yamaguchi (Professor at the Graduate School of Life Sciences, Tohoku University and RIKEN PSC Senior Visiting Scientist). Our goal is to make contributions to help people overcome the difficulties in the Tohoku region.
